Biography

Native to Vermont, Nik was born in Rutland and raised in the small town of Wallingford. After graduating from High School, Nik enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. As a Vehicle Recovery Operator Nik served two combat tours in Afghanistan. First, in 2010 in support of Operation Moshtarak, and again in 2013 for the demilitarization of forward combat operations. Nik later served in Latvia, where he trained with allied NATO nations on Eastern European military engagement exercises and readiness operations. Nik was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and honorably separated from his military service to begin law school.

Prior to graduating law school and joining the firm, Nik served as an intern for the Office of Legislative Counsel where he provided legislative legal services to the Vermont House of Representatives and Vermont Senate. Afterward, Nik served as a Certified Legal Intern for the Rutland County State's Attorney's Office, where he was admitted under student practice rules to appear as counsel on behalf of the State of Vermont in criminal proceedings.

As an 8th-generation Vermonter, Nik continues to live in Vermont with his wife Nichole Houghton, and son Alexander Houghton. Among supporting various Veteran organizations, Nik was formerly elected Justice of the Peace and served as the vice president for the Wallingford Board of Abatement.
